Residential Forum was founded in 1994 on the initiative of Dame Gillian Wagner and with the support of the National Institute for Social Work. Its purpose is to promote the achievement of high standards of care for children and adults in nursing homes, residential homes and schools, and to contribute to improving the quality of service to the public. Members of the Forum are people of standing and experience drawn from the public, private and voluntary sectors, as well as some who can speak for service users and carers.

Residential care is of course not alone in facing financial challenges but it is a service that is absolutely people-centred and it will not be possible to compromise on standards.

Modernising Residential Care
The Residential Forum has produced booklets covering the residential care of ‘older peolple’, ‘younger adults’ and children and young people and the ‘workforce’.
